Yes, the ending was terrible but like Game of Thrones, Lost (or any show with a bad finale), a few bad episodes at the end don’t take away from what a great show it was overall and that’s what Dexter is…

Story

Buried memories of the Spanish Civil War come to light when a woman searches for the remains of her grandfather’s father and discovers the story of an idealistic young teacher from Tarragona. I was very lucky to discover this film on a Singapore Airlines flight!

He clashes with the local priest, a staunch authoritarian, and is subsequently betrayed by the incoming authoritarian government and Franco’s troops, in the run-up to the Spanish Civil War

It tells the story of a beautiful, progressive teacher, a follower of the little-known and quite revolutionary “Friené Method”, who puts it to the test in a small village school in rural Spain. Bad timing!

I found it very moving and a great testament to the humanity and spirit of this master

He is beaten, paraded almost lifeless before his young pupils, and subsequently murdered, and his body abandoned, never to be found. The film rediscovers his story through the attempts of the great-grandmother of one of his pupils to find her great-grandfather’s burial in a mass grave.

Sadly, the “true story” book on which it is based doesn’t seem to be available in English yet

It deserves more attention and exposure on the independent film circuit, at least in the UK, Europe and where I live in Australia.
